David Korpiel, CRA
Pittsburgh native David Korpiel begins his 18th season at the GCCC. This year marks his second stint as the Executive Director. He has over 25 years experience in the sports/ facility management.
Korpiel began working in the sports world during his High School summer years. He began working with the Washington Diplomats of the old North American Soccer League. He also gained experience working with the Washington Federals of the United States Football League. During his college years he worked his summers at RFK Stadium in Washington DC and as special assistant to the Assistant General Manager. At RFK he began work with the grounds crew preparing the stadium for such Rock and Roll acts as the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and U2, just to name a few.
He also has experience working with the front office of the Washington Redskins. Korpiel was part of the ticket office staff.
Korpiel worked several summers with on the Cracker Jack Old Timers Baseball Classic, a special Baseball event that lasted over 10 years in both Washington DC and Buffalo, NY. The Cracker Jack Old Timers game was as an All Star event that featured Hall of Fame players such as Sandy Koufax, Lou Brock, Hank Aaron and Ernie Banks. The event drew over 30,000 people per game.
Korpiel worked at The George Washington University in the Athletic Department for six years. He was responsible for the logistics of preparing the 10,000 seat Smith Center. The Smith center is home to the GW Colonials Athletic Department. GW is part of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Smith Center was the venue for acts that included Comedian George Carlin, the B52’s, and R.E.M. just to name a few.
Korpiel was hired by the GCCC in 1992. He found the job very challenging but found tremendous support from the Community and the GCCC Board of Directors. He was motivated by the dedication of the original Board Members. Under Korpiel’s tenure the GCCC has grown from an inflatable “bubble” to its current status. He has seen the construction of the current facility from the ground up. The growth of the GCCC over the years is a true success story.
Korpiel has a Degree in Sports Management/Physical Education from Slippery Rock University. He also attended Finger Lakes Community College and has a degree in Architectural Design and Drafting. He is currently serving on the Ontario County Fair Board and is active in St. Benedict's Parrish in Canandaigua.
